Dr Neill Duncan

Biography
Dr Duncan works actively in the medical care of people with renal disease, in prevention of chronic kidney disease and those treated with dialysis and renal transplantation in one of the busiest and most diverse renal centres in the UK.
He qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, University of London 1995 with distinctions in Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Merit in Medicine and Merit in Pathology. He also has an Intercalated BSc in Anthropology from University College London. He gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians London 1998 with Fellowship awarded 2009, becoming an Associate Fellow Higher Education Academy in 2015.
Previously Dr Duncan has been a Royal College Tutor in Teacher training for resident doctors, and was Educational Supervisor of the Year in the Division of Medicine at Imperial College 2019, with a further Imperial College Education Award in 2025. He was awarded a Diploma in Medical Leadership from Birkbeck University in 2021.
He has been a Renal Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2005 and has been Clinical Lead for Dialysis in West London from that time. He achieved a Diploma Certificate in Medical Leadership from Birkbeck University 2021. He has Honorary Consultancy at Northwick Park Hospital.
He has supervised postgraduate studies for trainee doctors and supports advanced nurse practitioners, nurses, dieticians and pharmacists to develop safe autonomous practice including roles as independent medical prescribers. He organises and leads an annual Dialysis Academy at Imperial College, a multidisciplinary event with national and international appeal to improve patient care. He is a teacher on the UK Advanced Nephrology Course
Dr Duncan is a member of UK Kidney Association, European Renal Association and the International Society of Nephrology. His research interests have been in stroke and heart disease in people with renal disease, vascular access for haemodialysis, and currently home haemodialysis, and renal transplant recipients with declining renal function. He collaborates with the Renal Research Institute in New York and the Monitoring Dialysis Outcomes Study MONDO. Since 2020 he has 1600 citations and an h-Index of 22.
He was also a liaison officer for a ISN Renal Sisterhood Programme in Colombo Sri Lanka 2018-2022, supporting and learning from nephrology professionals abroad and to implement fair universal care. He has an interest in equity of access to healthcare and has founded an annual Cultural Health Expo from 2025 in West London with the purpose of in reach to the public community in North West London. He has a personal interest in the natural world, art and printmaking, and charity runs.
