Dr Louise Buchanan

Dr Louise Buchanan, MBChB, MSc, MD, FRCP(UK) is a Consultant Cardiologist and Medical Director Professional Standards at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

She is also currently the Vice President Professional and Society Values of the British Cardiovascular Society and is involved in the Women in Cardiology Committee, promoting women as professionals in cardiology.

Dr Buchanan was previously Treasurer for the European Association of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (EAPCI), following a term as Chair of the EAPCI Women Committee. Her research interests have focussed on the differences between men and women in heart disease with an aim to reduce inequalities in diagnosis and treatment.

She studied her Masters in Interventional Cardiology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy. She has completed the Women Transforming Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford.

Dr Buchanan has been involved in medical education throughout her career and previously was Associate Foundation Tutor. She is the Course Director for the annual Career in Medicine event, encouraging students from Cumbria to study medicine.
