Charlotte Young is the Communications and Engagement Officer at the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine, where she leads on strategic communications, public engagement and community connection in support of the School’s mission to serve Cumbria and address regional healthcare needs.
Charlotte has lived in Cumbria since childhood attending William Howard School in Brampton before studying Performing Arts at Performers College in Essex. Following graduation, she worked professionally in theatre and television in the UK and internationally, developing strong skills in storytelling, audience engagement, and public-facing communication. She returned to Cumbria in 2005, where her career evolved into education, leadership and business development.
She went on to become a teacher and multi-territory business owner across South and West Cumbria and later served as Operations Director for a national children’s theatre school franchise. Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox, gaining extensive experience in operational leadership, stakeholder management and brand communications.
Following life‑changing surgery in 2022, Charlotte became a cochlear implant recipient. This experience strongly shaped her professional focus and advocacy work, leading her to become a community mentor and to launch the deaf not dumb podcast, which raises awareness of deafness, accessibility, and lived experience. Her advocacy work aligns closely with PCSM’s commitment to inclusion, widening participation, and patient‑focused healthcare education.
Charlotte continues to develop her professional practice in communications and leadership.
