Dr Ben Hughes

Subject Lead for Paediatrics

Biography

Ben is a senior Paediatric Registrar in West Yorkshire with a specialty interest in High Dependency (HDU) and Critical Care / Transport Medicine. As a Paediatrician, communication is key; advocating for children and their families, providing the best care possible, and striving for improved ways of working to benefit the Paediatric population. Ben completed his Undergraduate training at the University of Leeds and has remained in the area throughout Postgraduate training. He completed a Masters in Clinical Education in 2021, and a Masters in Child Health in 2024.
Ben is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Ben has held educational and pastoral roles at the University of Leeds over the past 7 years, whilst also designing and implementing Postgraduate educational CPD activities. Over the last 4 years, Ben has branched out into multidisciplinary education activities, pioneering the Royal College of Nursing-accredited Enhanced Paediatric Nursing Skills (EPNS) course, hosted by the Bradford Improvement Academy.
Ben has worked as a Leadership Fellow, completing a Certificate in Healthcare Leadership, and a Level 3 Coaching qualification. ! Outside of work Ben heads to the Lake District for adventures.
