Ben Hammond MBChB (Hons) MRCA FFICM DipIMC RCSEd is a Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. After graduating from Liverpool University he worked in Cumbria and the East Midlands with spells in New Zealand and Malawi before returning to Cumbria in 2017. He is the North Cumbria Integrated Care Undergraduate Programme Director for Pears Cumbria School of Medicine with responsibility for developing high quality and enjoyable clinical learning placements within the trust.
Ben has been heavily involved in undergraduate teaching as a Teaching Fellow, Tutor and subsequently Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer for Newcastle University for several years and is Course Director for the Acute and Critical Care module and Local Education Provider Lead for NCIC. He gained his MMedEd in 2021 with work on how senior undergraduate students experience and manage uncertainty and is a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators. He has a strong interest in simulation, teaches on the faculty development course at Cumbria Resuscitation and Simulation Hub (CRASH) and is an Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Instructor.
In his spare time Ben enjoys spending time in Cumbria’s amazing outdoors with his wife and three boys. He volunteers as a Patterdale Mountain Rescue team doctor which gets him out on the fells in all seasons (and all weathers!)
