Dr Akiko Azuma
Clinical Teaching Fellow in Clinical Skills and Professional Practice
Biography
Akiko is a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Clinical Skills and Professional Practice (CSPP) at Pears Cumbria School of Medicine. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Galway and completed her foundation training in the northeast of England. She went on to work as a Paediatric Teaching Fellow in the South Tees NHS Foundation Trust, furthering her experience in clinical teaching for undergraduate students and obtained a Postgraduate certificate in Medical Education.
Akiko is passionate about widening participation and improving social mobility within medicine. She was part of the Social Mobility Foundation’s (SMF) “I Want To Be A Doctor” programme held at James Cook University Hospital. Her enthusiasm in facilitating educational opportunities extends beyond the hospital, having involved in projects to fundraise and work with local schools to teach children in Cambodia. Committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for her students, Akiko is keen to support the future of medical students and resident doctors at the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine.
