Michael joined the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine in April 2024 as Development Lead for CSPP Years 3 and 4. He has lived and worked in Cumbria since 2019 and prior to joining PCSM worked as an Undergraduate Tutor at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, where he developed and led a number of undergraduate educational programmes.

Graduating from the University of Sheffield Medical School in 2017, Michael subsequently stayed in the South Yorkshire region to complete his Foundation training alongside developing an academic interest in Medical Education. He moved to Cumbria in 2019 in order to be closer to the Lake District and to take up the position of Clinical Teaching Fellow at the Cumberland Infirmary; originally intending to stay for a year he has remained in the area ever since!

He obtained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2020 and completed his Master’s degree in Medical Education in 2022, with research focusing on student experiences of longitudinal integrated clerkships in the local area. His other educational interests include curriculum development and the role of simulation in medical student teaching.
