Malaika is a doctor and clinical education fellow in curriculum development for the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine. She obtained her medical degree from Kings’ College London, achieving a distinction in medical sciences and an intercalated BSc in Clinical and Molecular Endocrinology. She has gone on to complete core training in Psychiatry at South London and the Maudsley NHS trust.
She has extensive experience in delivering medical teaching for which she has received multiple commendations for teaching excellence. She has also been involved in various student and trainee led organisations, delivering teaching and developing content on topics ranging from sexual health to communication skills teaching in psychiatry. She has piloted and facilitated a trainee reflective practice group to discuss the impact of racism in psychiatry and has worked on curriculum development projects to address how structural determinants, race and mental health can be incorporated into a core training programme. She has presented at an international education conference and has a published paper in the Journal of HIV Medicine.
