Dr Robert Burd

Dr Rob Burd is currently a Consultant Dermatologist and the Clinical Lead for Dermatology at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust. Dr Burd was previously a Consultant for over 20 years where he became Head of Service and Lead Skin Cancer clinician at The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. He also acted as chair of the East Midlands Skin Cancer Network.

He gained considerable experience in the diagnosis and treatment of all forms of skin malignancies, including cutaneous lymphoma. He was the dermatology lead delivering regional services for both cutaneous lymphoma and penile cancer. Following his term as Head of Service at Leicester, he relocated to The Morecambe Bay area in 2021.

Since joining the Morecambe Bay team, he has overseen an expansion in the department which has now become one of the major dermatology provider units in the North West outside of Manchester and Liverpool. He still retains a significant clinical interest in managing patients with skin cancer and is research active in this field.

He plans to develop the academic profile of the department to support local research, training and education in the local medical schools including Pears Cumbria School of Medicine. Outside of work he enjoys the proximity of the rivers and fells in Cumbria where he can enjoy walking and fishing. He also greatly appreciates the cultural and social opportunities he gets to experience by living in Kendal.
